DUKE ENERGY SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS
COMBINED HEAT AND POWER / COGENERATION
A combined heat and power (CHP) system is an on-site distributed energy solution that produces heat and power from a single fuel source, capturing heat typically wasted during electricity generation.
Ask yourself: Is your organization protected against uncertain power prices? How do you mitigate the costs of downtime?
CHP increases energy reliability and power quality by providing continuous electric and thermal energy to facilities even when the grid has an outage.
CHP systems are the low-hanging fruit in energy efficiency and renewable energy. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, you can get nearly double the energy out of the same amount of fuel. Your CO2 emissions can be reduced by 20%-60%, depending on location and thermal load. Typically, our clients see 5%-15% total utility bill savings. And solar and wind power can easily be integrated with CHP systems.
If you’ve been considering CHP solutions, now is the time to save upfront through the Inflation Reduction Act. CHP projects that qualify for the Federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC) and begin construction before Jan. 1, 2025, can get a 30% federal tax credit. Our team will help you apply for available incentives.
You won’t need to train or add personnel to your team for the new equipment. We help run and maintain your CHP plant so your team can focus on all the other things on your long to-do list.
Our DBOOM (design, build, own, operate and maintain) model means you have full support for the life of the contract. We help you conserve capital, boost efficiency, lower greenhouse gas emissions and reduce your overall energy cost. Because when it comes to energy resiliency, we’ve got your back.
The basic equation for CHP is taking process waste products like heat or steam and using them to create something else you need, like electricity.
Examples:
CHP is ideal for manufacturing plants, chemical processing, industrial distribution parks, dairy and food processing, as well as warehouses, hotels and universities – especially facilities that:
